Ryoma Sakamoto




1835
Ryoma Sakamoto was born in Tosa.

1848
He enrolled in Benji Hineno's dojo, a martial arts school, in Kochi castle town and learned the swordsmanship of the Oguri-ryu that the lower-rank samurai learns.

1853
Ryoma entered Hokushin Itto-ryu in Edo and Chiba Sadakichi school for swordplay study.

Perry fleet led four black ships and visited a shore off Uraga.
Ryoma guarded the Shinagawa shore, too.

Ryoma became a disciple of military science person, Shozan Sakuma and learned Western gunnery.

1854
Conclusion of the Convention of Kanagawa.

Ryoma returned home in Tosa.
Ryoma heard overseas circumstances from illustrator, Kawata Shouryou of the Tosa feudal clan.

1856
For swordplay study, Ryoma went to Edo again.

1858
Ryoma received "certificate of the art of war using a long-handled sword in the Hokushin Itto-ryu style".
Ryoma finished fencing ascetic practices and went back to his own country.

"Ansei Purge" happened.

1860
"Incident outside the Sakurada Gate" assassinated Naosuke Ii.

1861
Zuizan Takechi and others form "Tosa Kinnoto". Ryoma joined it later, too.

1862
Ryoma left Tosa domain with Sonojo Sawamura.
He went to Shimonoseki.

With Jutaro Chiba, Ryoma visited the Kaishu Katsu's house of Akasaka and became a pupil.

1863
By a request of Kaishu Katsu, it became the de-feudal clan punishment pardon of Ryoma and others.
 (however, it became the body of the de-feudal clan again)

Tosa clan began oppression of Kin'no party.

Ryoma became navy private supplementary school, a leading student of a private school of Katsu in Kobe.

1864
Ryoma was engaged earnestly in each place and met the famous men.
Ryoma interviewed with Takamori Saigou in Satsuma, Kyoto residence of a lord.

Kaishu Katsu is dismissed from his office in magistrates of warships.
Ryoma entrusted the Satsuma feudal clan with a body of Ryoma.

1865
Ryoma was accompanied Takamori Saigou and entered Satsuma for the first time.

Ryoma formed "Kameyama shachu (company)" in cause Nagasaki of the protection of the Satsuma feudal clan.

Ryoma preached Katsura Kogoro and talk, Satsuma and Choshu alliance in Shimonoseki.

Ryoma talked together with Saigo in Satsuma, Kyoto residence of a lord with Shintaro Nakaoka.

1866
Ryoma concluded "Satsuma and Choshu alliance".

It was attacked in Terada-ya of Fushimi by a shogunate official and got injured.

Ryoma became the guarantor of the Satsuma and Choshu alliance by a request of Katsura Kogoro.

By Satsuma feudal clan ship from Osaka to Kagoshima. (honeymoon with the Oryo)

Ryoma participated in the Shimonoseki sea fight by the curtain long war and supported long National Guard and talked together with Shinsaku Takasugi.

1867
A de-feudal clan punishment was forgiven and reorganized Kameyama coterie and became cause "Kaientai" of the Tosa feudal clan protection, and, as for Ryoma, it was with a captain.

"An Iroha-maru case" happened.
Warship, the Meiko-maru of the Kishu feudal clan which Kaientai borrowed it for marine transportation duties from the Ozu feudal clan, and left for a Meikou-maru and the Nagasaki Port towards Osaka from the Nagasaki Port collided near Kasaoka Islands of the Bicchu country and sank.
This accident is considered to be a first Japanese marine accident inquiry accident

It left Nagasaki by Tosa feudal clan ship with Shojiro Goto and drafted "Senchu-hassaku".

By a call of Ryoma and Nakaoka, I concluded "Satsudo Meiyaku" with Saiigo, Okubo and others of Satsuma among Goto, Fukuoka and others of Tosa.

Since a de-feudal clan, Ryoma returned to the parents' house by a return to be the last in a beginning.

A Restoration of the Imperial rule written petition was submitted to the Shogunate by Yodo Yamanouchi.

Apply for Yoshinobu Tokugawa, "Restoration of the Imperial rule"; and next day Imperial grant.
Ryoma withdrew to secret Imperial edict of attacking the shogunate, Satsuma and Choshu.

Ryoma drafted "a new government general plan eight plan".

Ryoma was attacked with Shintaro Nakaoka in Kyoto, Oomi-ya By an assassinator and died.

1868
Ryoma promulgated "Imperial Covenant Consisting of Five Articles" for the cause by the new government "eight new government general plan measures".

Edo-jo Castle no blood surrender.

Taro Takamatsu (Nao Sakamoto) of the nephew who inherited a family heir of Ryoma later crossed it to box building of the Ezo place (Hakodate-shi) as a government official of the new government.

Kaientai was dissolved.
