John Manjiro
1827
John Manjiro was born as a son of the fishermen of the countries of Tosa.
1841
He was cast ashore in drifting, the solitary island during fishing in Ashizuri Cape for ten days and he ate a little distilled water and seaweed, seabird and sustained myself for 143 days.
1842
He was saved in whaler John Howe Landes, U.S.A. and was under the protection of Captain Whitfield.
He parted from the drifting companion in Honolulu, and Manjiro set sail for the Pacific as a whaler as Japanese.
At this time, it is with a nickname derived from the John Mung attached from the Americans to ship name.

He joined Mizuno Chikugonokami Tadanori of the Magistrate of Foreign Affairs and made an investigation and the drawings of Ogasawara Islands (Chichijima, Hahajima).
1866
He became the professor of the Satsuma feudal clan and taught a voyage, shipbuilding, surveying, English.
By a request of Yodo Yamauchi which was a feudal lord of Tosa, He contributed to the establishment of Shoujirou Goto and Kaisei-kan which were an educational institution for han children.
1869
In response to a command of the Meiji government, He became the associate professor of the Kaisei school (Tokyo University).
Become a professor later; and of the highest educational institution taught at a school.
1870
He went on a business trip to Europe as a member of the inspection of Franco-Prussian War.
He returned from London, and light cerebral hemorrhage was caused soon and fell down, but recovered.
1898
He spent quiet later years as a school teacher.
He finished a life at 71 years old.
